Here we look at how we might visualise the federation. Rather than specify any particular way of doing this, or looking specifically at the need expresed with the federated wiki community we look to address the wider needs of collaborative writing and collective intelligence communities.
This page was originally written 8 years ago. In turn this was based on frustration of the lack of success, or deep work in the wider community integrating graph based visualisation into the writing expereince. See: - History of federated graphing - Multimedia Wiki
# Libraries
We now have a number of well crafted javascript based visualisation libraries, and we have the graph libraries and graph database(s). This is a sign that it may now be possible to finally tackle this problem and release the benefits to the wider community.
# Federation Graph Data
The Federation is essentially a federated flat file database of json files representing single nodes of knowledge. The links, forks, authorship and history of each page is preserved in an easily parseable json structure enabling all mannor of graphing opportunites for us to experiment with.
In order to leverage this opportunity to the full, we are seeking to organise and fund a Federation Design Sprint in which we bring together a number of communities with a history of interest in this area, around a focussed topic.
